50:50 Sharemilker - Tokoroa
On behalf of our clients, we are seeking a 50/50 sharemilker that is ready to start their sharemilking journey or grow their current business.
Target cow numbers for the 95 effective hectare property are 260-300 cows. The farm owner is open to a herd size that meets the sharemilkers needs. This well performing dairy farm targets 110,000 kgMS, achieving 108-125[IB1] ,000kgMS over the past few years. The current herd peaked at 275 cows this season, with top genetics the herd is available to purchase if the Sharemilker is interested (however not a necessity).
Historically, milk production has been met through feeding home-grown grass silage, maize grown on farm and approximately 150T of PKE (feed in trailers). The farm also uses 120-130 kgN/ha, strategically using N to boost growth at the right times.
The farm owners are keen to have someone on board that is ambitious and proactive, for the sharemilking business, farm owner and the greater industry.
This role requires 2 full time people on farm in the spring, with the average for the season 1.5 FTE. There is accommodation suitable to support employment if required.
The successful applicant will:
- Have a sound understanding of New Zealand pastoral based systems
- Have excellent pasture management and feed planning knowledge
- Have good stockmanship and animal welfare priorities
- Have excellent communication skills
- Take pride in the farm and its results
